Where We Work
Rice is the most water-intensive crop in the world. Punjab is home to more than half of Pakistan’s total rice production, so that’s where we’re based.
This central-eastern region is home to over 5 million farms, most being small-scale. As you could imagine, groundwater depletion is becoming more and more severe, especially during the dry-season. What’s more: one in three farmers in the region lives below the poverty line, making it pretty hard for most farms to be able to afford new, efficient, or environmentally friendly technology.
